Hi, my name is Peter Richardson
and I am the lead singer and guitarist in the band. I have been with
‘Salvador’ now for twenty four years after joining the band in 1983 and
have enjoyed every bit of it since.
I have been lucky enough to be
part of the band and watch it grow from a little sixties style ‘playing
once in a while’ group to a hard working, almost full time, professional
band.
‘Salvador’ has made numerous personnel changes over its
twenty six year existence and in my opinion, the current line up of Mike
Mingins, Jimmy Bell and myself is in no doubt, the best format we have
ever had. With so many playing years experience between us, we know what
works and what doesn’t with audiences. Although we play cover songs rather
than our own, we perform great songs from the likes of ‘The Eagles’,
‘Queen’, ‘ElO’…and who would deny that these have been some of the world’s
best bands to ever perform on a stage.
Although musically adept,
being able to sing strong vocal harmonies is a big plus for us as it
allows us to diversify into other areas too, pulling out great songs from
other bands that have influenced us over the years such as ‘The Four
Seasons’, ‘Bee Gees’, ‘Smokie’ to name but a few.
I think the band
has mellowed and developed a show that makes audiences feel contented and
relaxed. Instead of just banging out lots of dance tunes, we now seem to
find many people just like to sit back, watch the band and take in the
atmosphere of our performance and the splendid light show produced by my
younger brother Kevin.
We are currently enjoying much success
playing in the North east where of the top club acts have learned their
trade. We have been fortunate enough to be taken on with the top
theatrical agency, ‘Dixons’. I think they might have been a little bit
edgy at first taking us on, as a number of clubs and theatres over see a
three piece group being just a ‘little trio’. We had to prove to them that
we were no such thing and that we could perform at the top club
level.
Having the right equipment, show, attitude and experience
has worked for us enormously and the feedback from the clubs and from
‘Dixons’ has been fantastic. We are getting to play in some of the top
venues and receive rave reviews every time we go over there.
Like
all successful businesses, we have invested heavily and over the over the
last few years, purchasing state of the art sound and lighting equipment
which thankfully, is paying dividends for us in the longer term. We all
have the same philosophy in the band. If we need it, we will buy it.
Somehow!
We have our arguments and tiffs like you would expect,
but we have a bond and a chemistry that I personally think are the most
important factors in being a member of ‘Salvador’. Without a doubt, we are
committed in providing the best we can offer in every performance, coupled
with quality and value for money. It even goes beyond the actual
performance. We are often found chatting with people in the audience
before and after a show. It’s nice to be able to take time out to do that
and if we receive kind comments, then all for the better. I am often asked
the question, "what makes a good night?" and for me, my answer is simple.
We love to entertain people and we fully appreciate those people who come
and see us and who appreciate us too. That makes good atmosphere and the
makings of a perfect night.
Being shall we say, mature in our
years, having this website is pretty new and complex to us. We
thought about it and decided that with the web being such a massive part
of society as it nowadays, we felt we must be part of it! We're
hoping it'll allow more people to see what we are about and what we are
doing, and it's also a great for our fans to follow keep in touch with
us!
